THE  HOLY GREAT MARTYR PARASKEVA PIATNITSA CHURCH IN BAKYRIVKA (BAKIROVKA)

Community of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Piatnitsa Church in Bakyrivka (Bakirovka), Sumska oblast (Ukraine), applies with a request  for the sake of Christ to help in renovation of church. The Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Piatnitsa Church in Bakyrivka (Bakirovka) was  founded  in 1685. It has outlived several renovations during its long history (1712, 1801, 1864, 1901, 1903). It played an important part in public life of the village. The Church kept a church book to 1920 which records are contained even in Family History Library (Salt Lake City,  USA). The existing building of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Piatnitsa Church  was constructed at the end of XIX century.  Wooden on a brick foundation, a temple was built after a plan by  Volodymyr Mykolayovyh Pokrovskiy, eparchial architect of  Warsawa and Kholm Orthodox Eparchy (Poland) and Kharkiv eparchy (Ukraine). He built more than 60 churches during his life. His wooden churches had their own unique style and architecture. Each wooden building of the same type plan design  differed from each other on details At first sight they appeared similar, however at more careful consideration it became evident that each of them held its originality and uniqueness. The Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Piatnitsa Church in Bakyrivka (Bakirovka) is the unique example of architectural traditions  of Slobozhanska wooden temple construction school.

Pyatnitska church in Bakyrivka (Bakirovka) the unique wooden building of architect has stood to our days. In 1989 the church was closed because of its emergency state. The dome has crumbled, the floor  has decayed  and fallen into the subbasement, and window glass and numerous details are now  missing.  What a sorrowful state of the church!.

Today the community of Bakyrivka (Bakirovka) village, guardian of this church, has an enormous desire to recover it to its original state.  We will be very thankful to you if you would find it in your heart to help us in the renovation of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Piatnitsa Church in Bakyrivka (Bakirovka).
